Tottenham have completed the signing of striker Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth on a six-year contract.
Spurs have been on the lookout for attacking reinforcements all summer and after Solanke emerged as the club’s preferred candidate, advanced talks began with the Cherries before a deal was agreed on Friday afternoon.
The PA news agency understands the deal could ultimately be worth £65m, with Tottenham spending £55m upfront and a further £10m included in the transfer as add-ons.
Bournemouth owner Bill Foley confirmed earlier this summer that Solanke’s contract included a release clause in the region of £65m and that his exit was a record sale for the club, surpassing the £40m they received for Nathan Ake from Manchester City in 2020.
If Solanke can succeed in north London, his move would surpass Spurs’ record £63million deal for Tanguy Ndombele in 2019.
Postecoglou has given Tottenham the green light to pursue Solanke after the best season of his career.
Solanke scored 21 goals in all competitions for Bournemouth last season – including 19 in the Premier League – but also caught the eye with his pressing statistics and link-up play for Andoni Iraola’s side.
His move to Spurs will give Solanke another opportunity at a top-six club, having progressed through Chelsea’s academy before leaving for Liverpool in 2017.
Although Solanke’s chances are limited at Anfield, he has played a key role in keeping Bournemouth in the Premier League over the last two seasons, but he was eager to seize what he sees as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity by signing for Tottenham.
Solanke is expected to be in attendance for Saturday’s friendly against Bayern Munich at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
His former club Bournemouth are now looking to replace him and PA understands they have been actively working on alternatives for Solanke on the condition that he can leave after an impressive season.
